Rags & Riches, by Emily Wood & a #giveaway

The lovely Emily Wood is on tour with her newest release, The Best of Both Worlds, book 2 in the Rags & Riches series. Business and Pleasure is the first, and although it stands alone I’d highly recommend picking it up.

Plus Emily is giving away a $10 Amazon or B&N Gift card. Be sure to enter the Rafflecopter!

Business and Pleasure, Book One

Can mixing business and pleasure ever result in a happy ending?

When sexy, rich Lawrence Russo asks Mia to come and work for him in Italy for two weeks, she jumps at the chance. After all, it beats pole dancing, and the salary he offers her is practically obscene.

A relationship quickly begins to develop between the two, but Mia can't help but wonder if Lawrence's feelings for her are genuine or if he feels he's just paying for a service.

Even if their relationship is strong enough to survive her insecurities, what will happen when somebody from her past shows up and threatens to reveal her deepest, darkest secret?

Content Warning: explicit sex

My Review

Mia is exactly the kind of heroine I can relate to. She has skeletons in her closet and has been to hell and back again, but it’s only made her stronger. She’s not been dealt the best card in life, but works hard to survive because at her core she’s a fighter.

Business & Pleasure is such a modern day Cinderella story, with the handsome (and loaded) prince whisking her away and giving everything she’d been too scared to dream about. Or believe could ever happen to her. Will Lawrence be able to convince Mia that she’s the one he wants, or will her dark past be the deal breaker? Why don’t you pick it up and find out for yourself? ;o)

I really enjoyed this short steamy read and will definitely be picking up The Best of Both Worlds.

Here’s a little more about that…

The Best of Both Worlds, Book Two

A choice between two men? If only it were that simple.

Melissa Morgan seems to have it all…her modeling career is taking off and she's engaged to one of the most eligible bachelors in London. But when she finds Jonathan cheating on her again, Melissa finds solace in the arms of Riley, a sexy bar owner trying to recover from the heartbreak of his last relationship. Melissa shouldn't even want Riley, but she can't seem to stay away, especially when she finds in him everything that's missing in her relationship with Jonathan.

Melissa knows she has to make a hard choice, and when it comes to choosing between the life she's always wanted and the man she's falling in love with, she might find out that she can't have the best of both worlds.

I have always believed that the best stories are the ones that you can't put down, the ones that transport you to a different place and make you believe in the characters. This is exactly why I write… I have always loved the escapism that reading and writing provides, and there is nothing more exciting than imagining your own set of characters, and then letting them practically write the story for you. Writing has always been a dream of mine, and I'm lucky to have the kind of people around me that have always nurtured and encouraged my passion.

I live a cozy little life in Wales, and when I'm not writing I'm taking care of my young family, studying for a degree in Classical Studies, and training to become a nail technician. I love traveling to new places, meeting new people, and experiencing new things…it's all great inspiration for my books!

Waking Up In Vegas

What happens in Vegas…

Waking up to the bright lights of Vegas in an unfamiliar penthouse suite, cocktail waitress Phoenix Montgomery finds she’s covered from head to foot in gold glitter and not alone – aside from the empty bottle of champagne, there’s a mystery man in the shower and a huge sparkly ring on her finger!

Stays in Vegas?

There’s no denying Max Waldburg’s demi-god sex appeal but commitment-phobic Phoenix doesn’t do relationships. Only it seems her new husband (agh!) has other ideas…he’s trying to keep that ring on her finger and his wife firmly back in his bed. The only question on her lips is – why? Or maybe, why not?

SUN, SEA AND SCANDAL

Notorious heiress Alexa Green has certainly been enjoying her most recent girls-holiday in Marbella. Checking in with an update or two...

I know, I’ve been a terrible blogger of late, so thought it was time for a little post with a few updates on what’s been happening.

Firstly, I signed a contract for the print rights on one of my books! So excited, it was the first one I penned and has a special place in my heart. I’ll let you know more when I do.

My final edits have come for my next book with Harper Impulse, and people, it’s a sizzler. Yup, I’ve crossed the line from writing hot to writing explicit in this one. There’s still romance, humour and a story, but the smexy times have been amped up. So much so that my face burned during the read-through! Hopefully more info on this soon, but it’s looking like an August/September release.

I’m now working on the follow up to the smexy, and another story that I’m keeping under wraps for a bit. Not to be a tease or anything (honest) it’s just early days yet and I had no idea how much research would be involved, so going a little slower than I’d hoped. But it’s going to be another scandalous story, that’s certain. And it’s not the heroine this time. Alexa from Sinfully Summer was more than a handful ;o)

In other news, Harper Impulse have announced four new fantastic authors! Click the covers to find out more, but come back, because there’s more.

The lovely Shehanne Moore and creator of The Unraveling of Lady Fury (I’m sure you all know how much I loved this) has a new book out soon, The Judas Bride. You can find out more here or pop over to Noelle’s blog for more and a giveaway .

Plus the fabulous Susan Arden has done it again! Her latest book, Rock Into Me, book 1 in her Rule Breaker series, is fantastic and only 99c! Quick, go get it (click the pic).

I’ll try not to leave it as long without a post next time ;o)

Interview with Candis Terry & Giveaway

I interviewed the lovely Candis Terry on her tour with Tasty Book Tours about her latest release with Avon Romance, Anything But Sweet. Can’t wait to read this one.

Hi! And thank you so very much for having me with you here today.

Can you tell my readers a little about your book?

How did you come up with the idea for Anything But Sweet?

I’m an avid HGTV viewer and I love makeovers! I’ve tried a few on my own house when my husband has been out of town but taking on that big of a challenge in just a few days is kinda crazy. One day I had the big “What if” floating through my head and I followed it up with “ What if I had a heroine who was a makeover designer who came in to change things up and the hero hated change?” That’s pretty much the way it went and next thing I knew Charli and Reno began to take shape.

What will we love about Reno Wilder (other than that fantastic name)?

Reno had a really tough background and tragedy has completely stopped him from moving forward. He has an amazing sense of honour and loyalty and is truly willing to sacrifice his own happiness for that of others. He’s a protector of everyone and he guards his heart very carefully even though he has so much love to give. Watching him change and take chances even though he was scared to death was what made me fall in love.

Did he ever irritate you when you were writing this story?

What? Did you not hear me banging my head on my desk? He drove me crazy. Stubborn man! Stubborn, sexy man.

Charlotte sounds like my kind of heroine. Do you share any of her qualities?

I wish! Charli is a go get ‘em, glass half-full, optimistic kind of girl. I’m the glass half-empty type. Trying to keep up with Charli’s energy level was exhausting and probably more fun than I’ve had since Kate Silverthorne in Second Chance at the Sugar Shack.

A bit about your writing.

What’s your writing schedule like; organised, squeeze in an hour when you can, or something else?

For many, many years I wrote from the time I got off work from the day job until around midnight and on weekends. Now that I’m writing full-time I’m still not used to writing in the non-vampire hours. And like Dug, the dog in the animated movie UP, I am easily distracted. Still, I usually write anywhere from four to eight hours every day and on weekends.

Where do you write?

I used to have my office in a small spare bedroom, but once I sold my first book my husband thought I should move into the formal living room we have that is closed off by French doors. I’m not sure it was such a good idea. I have three huge floor-to-ceiling windows that look out into this amazing landscape where birds and squirrels and my dogs like to frolic so . . . yeah . . . total distraction.

Favourite writing snacks/drinks/beverages?

I’ll drink coffee all day if I don’t make myself stop. But then I turn to Diet Pepsi and that’s really no better. Not much of a snacker. Usually a few almonds or something crunchy will work. Mostly it’s the coffee.

Have you ever had writer’s block and, if so, how did you overcome it?

I think writer’s block hits us all. When that happens to me I know I need inspiration or to relax and clear my head. I’ll usually take a walk around our property (I live on a farm so there’s lots of room to walk), visit my garden, or the livestock, or play with my dogs. If that doesn’t work I take a hot shower (my brain really loosens up in there). If none of that works I’ll take my laptop outside and sit by our waterfall beneath the trees. I’ve found it’s all about putting yourself in a different place and a different state of mind.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A dancer. I was a performer when I was a kid who sang and danced. I loved to dance! Which is probably why my feet now hate me!

Do you have any advice for new writers?

Don’t make the mistake I did for 22 years of trying to write for a certain publisher, or a certain editor, or a trend. Stay true to yourself, your imagination, and your own voice. Write work that is marketable. And most importantly, I know how tough rejections can be (Believe me. I still have every single one I ever received). No matter how tough it may seem, if being published is your dream, never ever give up.

A bit about you

How do you spend your time when you’re not writing?

I garden (though I admit I’m not the best gardener). Also, we have a travel trailer and an ATV and we usually take off to the forest for a couple of days where we go on amazing rides, and fish in the lakes, and have great campfires.

What’s the best way for you to unwind if you’ve had a hard day?

Well, besides zonking out for an hour or two, I like to sit in our backyard which overlooks our alfalfa field and out onto the mountains. We have a lovely waterfall and lots of trees and it’s very relaxing.

What are you currently reading?

An ARC of Rachel Gibson’s September release Run To You.

What was the last thing you watched?

Tonight I sat down and watched HBO’s True Blood. Last week we took our granddaughter to see Monster’s University. It was very cute. How could you not love a monster wearing braces on his teeth?

What, to you, would be a perfect day?

Sleeping in past eight o’clock. A nice breakfast. Reading all day by a waterfall or bubbling creek. A barbecued dinner. And a nice cocktail to finish off the day. Or . . . having Disneyland all to myself and my family with every ride and every restaurant open and all the Disney characters walking around and the fireworks show!

If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go, and why?

Scotland. I have a very strong Scottish heritage and I’m very interested in finding out more about my ancestry and seeing the land from which they came. And if you could throw in a few haunted castles, that would be even better!

And finally where can my readers find you?

I love to meet and chat with people. So please stop by and say hello!

Thank you so much Candis. And now a little more about her book, and be sure to check out the giveaway.

A man who doesn’t like change . . .

The Wilder family is something of a Sweet, TX institution: between their yearly BBQ blow-outs and their Hardware and Feed store, they’re an institution—an institution that ex-marine Reno Wilder has tried to preserve, in honor of his lost loved ones. But it seems like he’s the only one who’s got any respect left for traditions when a new TV makeover show rolls in to renovate Sweet to bring in more tourists. Everyone is pleased except Reno—and this cowboy is determined to keep everything just the way he likes it.

A woman who wants to change everything . . .

Inquisitive. Stubborn. Smart. Drop dead gorgeous. That would be makeover show host and designer, Charlotte Brooks—the woman Reno has declared war against. And yet, he can’t seem to keep away from her, or to get her off his mind. Charlotte isn’t afraid to back down from a challenge—of any kind—and she’s promised to prove to Reno that change can be sexy, hot, and very, very sweet, if Reno and Charli learn to let go of their pasts and grab hold of a future full of promise.
