The Power of Four

Two posts in the one day? Yeah, but I have to say I forgot about this tag and had an OSM.

The lovely Melissa Jolley tagged me on her blog a while back and I'm just getting around to the questions now. Sorry Melissa!

Okay so as I understand it, I answer some questions and tag four of my peeps? Hope I'm doing it right. Here goes.

Four places I've worked

A fun factory at Brewers Fayre. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing a bear costume, making road runners & pop eyes out of balloons and face painting. In fact, it was my favourite job ever!

Trainee legal secretary in Dunfermline. I have to say, this was my least favourite job. Memorising how 50 or so individuals take their tea and coffee, making it, then delivering it over four floors three times a day was the easiest part. I was so skinny then. Sigh...

Trainee Paralegal. This was better, but not by much. At this point, I'm thinking 'solicitors aren't the easiest bunch to work for'. Oh and I learned Commercial Law wasn't my forte, nor my cup of tea.

Private Client Paralegal/Secretary/law accountant/conveyancing skivvy/techy support/whatever else. Believe it or not, this is my second favourite (and also current) job. I love the diversity of doing different things day in day out. I'm left to work by myself, but also work as part of a team. It will be a sad day when I have to leave my current employers. Its a small office, but they are lovely peeps and in the six years I've been here, we've all grown as a family.

Four films I could watch over and over

I'm mostly a book buff, but I think I could do this with Lord of the Rings (all of them).

Role Models is another. It's hillarious.

Then Forest Gump, 'cause I do like a good chuckle and bubble.

Any Adam Sandler film, but Anger Management is my favourite out of them.

Four telly programs

Okays, so I'm sad and completely and utterly addicted to Vampire Diaries. Loved the books, but the show even more. So jealous of Elena its unreal. I mean who would turn down Damon? Hope Ian gets the part of Christian in the 50 Shades film. Damn, I'd pay good money to watch that!

Ugly Betty. I know its finished, but I'm a saddo and watch the re-runs. Dunno what does it for me, Betty, Daniel, Markanda, or the premise. Its a big bloody heroin batch for mwah. Love it!

Scrubs. Love the characters, the banter, the setting. Though it wasn't the same after JD buggered off to another hospital.

The Big Bang Theory. I have Sheldon's voice as my ringtone. Sad eh? Lol. This is geek city, but I love it all the same. Bazinga!

Four Authors I enjoy

Heidi Rice – 'cause, well, I bow at her brilliance.

Maisy Yates is a close second, and damn her books grip me.

Penny Jordan, a complete legand.

Cassandra Clare – especially her steampunk, Infernal Defices Series.

Four places I've travelled

Spain – It's not Scotland. Major plus.

Florida – Can I have my Greencard please?

Mexico – I'm going back. ASAFP

Portugal – Not my cup of tea, but warm. Plus.

Four websites I visit daily

Facebook
Blogger
Absolute Write
Harlequin

Four favourite foods

Broccoli – 'cause I'm weird like that.

Salmon – I'd die without it.

Muscles – Go figure, I'm a seafood fan.

Squid – cooked properly. Go Kevin!

Four places I'd rather be

Mexico – when's the next flight out?

Anywhere hot.

A beach.

The States.

Four people I want to tag (sorry lol)

Amalie Berlin
Inn. C. Black
Jessica Barker
Michelle Smart

The Wrong Direction

And I'm not talking about the boy band!

Have you ever written a story and got to the point where you'd planned your first pivotal moment, and pushing through it felt like hitting your head off a wall would be easier? That's where I'm at with book 2 in my Price of Fame Series. I had this one all worked out, or so I thought, until I started writing the thing. I know where I need to take these two, trouble is, when I plotted out the story I didn't really know Sander and Chloe. Yeah, Sander has a good few scenes in The Monster of Fame, so I know how he reacts to certain situations, but I didn't have more than that.

I wanted Sander to have a complex back-story, void of emotion from his parents and in turn, he was unable to open up to his ex-fiancé or anyone else. Needless to say she left him, for his best friend, and now he's in a situation where he needs Chloe to help him out and in exchange, will open the door to the job of her dreams.

Trouble is, I'm doing it again. Forcing my poor characters to fit the external plot and they are screaming at me to let them lead. I went back a chapter to the part which still felt natural, and now I'm listening. The words are flowing easier, and my head has stopped thumping.

I guess some stories are just gonna have to be pantsed, others I'll plot. I'm in a much better place now I've let Sander and Chloe have their way. Can actually think clearly and I've stopped battering my skull off of hard surfaces :o)

Cover Reveal

I've screamed about it from the rooftops - well, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. My poor blog has been neglected though. Here's the cover to The Monster of Fame! It's starting to feel a bit more real now :o)

Six Sentence Sunday

I thought I'd carry on from where I left off last week. Here is Caitlyn & Jake's first kiss.

His hand cupped her cheek and his thumb brushed her lips making them burn and swell. Jake's head lowered and he brushed his mouth against hers.

The shock of the sensations rippling through Caitlyn made her mind go blank for a second. Then her lips parted and the taste of him filled her mouth along with his tongue. Caitlyn lost composure. Her hands fisted his lapels and pulled him closer, pressing herself tighter against him.

Hope you all have a great day.

Happy dancing...

I’ve just sold a second story to Beachwalk Press! I feel like I’m having the most incredible dream ever. Two books in two months after a year of revisions, re-writes and dreaded rejection letters.

The book I’ve just sold isn’t related to The Monster of Fame in any way. It was my New Voices entry from last year (tentatively) named The Isle of Sensuality. I didn’t get anywhere with New Voices, but I did get some awesome feedback. Same again when I subbed to Mills & Boon. So off I went and re-wrote the whole thing from scratch (for the second time). I really believed in Cait & Jake and wanted their story to be told.

Unfortunately, the story still wasn’t right for Mills & Boon, but it felt right for my characters. Now I’m chuffed to bits to say it’s found a home with Beachwalk. This is the second book which will be released with them and I’m thrilled to bits!

The new version of the story is set on an Island just off the coast of Rio. Jake and Caitlyn are there shooting a movie and decide on a short fling for the duration. Caitlyn falls for Jake hard, even though he is all wrong for her. Jake’s not unaffected either, but he can't give her more.

For those of you who read my New Voices entry, you will see that the premise has completely changed (and I like to think my writing has improved since then ).

Again, more details to follow. I’m thrilled to bits.

In other news, The Monster of Fame has a (tentative) release date of 15th October. Super exciting, and maybe a teensy bit terrifying.

Christmas time – It's May!

Is it just me or is Christmas coming earlier every year?
I understand why publishing houses are advertising for seasonal anthologies at the moment, can even get why people are booking their holidays for the Christmas period. But isn't it a bit early to start planning Christmas nights out, buying presents and selling Christmas cards? A girl at my work decided on Friday that now was the time to book somewhere for December. My mouth dropped open in shock.
A little store near me, which usually opens in October and sells Christmas nick naks and gifts has already opened its doors. Who wants to buy a tree, cards, presents or decorations before the summer? Maybe I'm just a last minute kind of gal, but come on. It's MAY. Really?
What about you? Do you plan Christmas before the summer or worry about it nearer the time?

Six Sentence Sunday

Hi guys, hope your all having a fab weekend. I've been crazy busy so didn't have a chance to post last week.

This week's six is from a story I originally entered into New Voices last year. Its since been rewritten with some drastic changes. Jake and Caitlyn are filming a movie in Rio and, although they are attracted to each other, Caitlyn doesn't want to take things further. Their characters in the movie 'get it on' though, which makes it harder for Caitlyn to hide her desire for Jake. This is the lead up to their first on-screen kiss.
Caitlyn struggled to remember her next line. Her gaze was transfixed on his full lips. “What if we're too late?”

Jake's expression morphed into one so tender that it pierced her heart and made her long for him in a way she'd never longed for any man. Right then, she forgot that he was acting, forgot that the cast and crew were watching, she forgot where they were. It was just Jake and her, standing chest to chest in the harbour.
For those who don't know the rules, here's the deal. Each Sunday you post six sentences from your current book or wip, and link back to SixSunday's website.

Happy Sunday xxx
